Activity Description: | Immanuel INC has been operating since July 2010. Immanuel INC complies fully with all federal, state, and local mandates, is fully accredited by NYC DOHMH Bureau of Day Care and follows all Pre-K practices set by the NYC DOE. Immanuel has been operating throughout the years. Our program provides day care services to low income, working, and new immigrant families in the communities. We have gradually served a growing diverse community and had to provide for more languages. Many of our families start their child’s educational journey in our 2-year-old class and continue to rise with the classes until they have completed Pre-K for All at our school. Our staff also sees the growth in the children and establish a trusting relationship with the families, which becomes extremely beneficial for the child’s overall development. We can provide more individual guidance to ensure that the child is being supported from our staff and at home. During our summer program, we offer a class for elementary grade students, which consists mostly of our program graduates. Our experience has allowed us to try to accommodate our families by providing for them the care, high-quality education, and positive school experience for their child. The program goal for Immanuel is to teach to the whole child to their individual interests while equipping them with the tools to be respectful human beings that are intelligent and kind. We use the PKFCC to teach to the domains of learning, as well as introduce different cultures incorporating respect for our likenesses and differences. We celebrate our families’ cultures and introduce the cultures of others. Immanuel has an “open-door” policy welcoming parents to partake in the child’s classroom. Additionally, we guide and support our families via email, articles, workshops, newsletters, and conferences. Immanuel staff is comprised of many cultures and serves a diverse community - particularly an Asian population. We offer translation services and extended hours to accommodate working families and build a stronger partnership with our community. By combining the socioeconomic backgrounds of our families with the services our program offers, we continue to build upon a high valued partnership. We see this socioeconomic and racially diverse integrated classroom as an important component of preschool quality. It is our hope and goal to unite the family community with the school community in working together to bring forth culturally aware, kind and learned individuals. Our program serves the working and new immigrant families of Northeast Queens. What makes our program a good fit for this neighborhood is the high percentage of the Asian population living in the area, mostly consisting of Korean and Chinese families. Among these families, many of them are foreign born immigrants whose native language is not English; many of them require language assistance with important information and services, which may often be out of reach to immigrants. Many of our staff come from immigrant families themselves, which enables us to understand and relate to the community we serve. Our site is located conveniently among many public transportations stops, allowing families to drop-off and pick-up their child to and from work. Having a 10 hour per day service model helps our families be able to give their child a high-quality education, while working. Our site is located two blocks from the Long Island Railroad and an MTA bus stop is around the corner, making it very accessible for parents who rely on public transportation. Based on the estimated service need for zip code 11361, there is a high demand for a longer school day. To best help these families, our site is open from 7:30am to 6pm. To ensure the health and safety of our students, we adhere to all the requirements of Article 47 of the NYC DOHMH, NYC Department of Buildings, NYC DOE, and NYC Fire Inspections. Documentation of compliance with these regulations are always maintained on file. Precautions are also taken to eliminate all conditions in areas accessible to children that pose a safety or health hazard. We also comply with the policies described in the DECE handbook and our contract. Our staff is trained in health and other emergencies, such as First Aid/CPR – including Epi-Pen usage – fire fitness, and Food Protection licenses. All new and current staff are also trained annually through our Staff Handbook on how to respond to emergencies, behavior management, how to make mandated reports, and have established a team for Lost Child Prevention Policies and Procedures. We have made it mandatory for all our students and staff to receive all required vaccinations and immunizations, updated annually. All our meals are provided following the nutrition guidelines of CACFP, which is free for all families. Our school has also become a nut-free zone to accommodate our students with severe allergies. |
