| Activity Description: | Brown Girl Recovery (BGR) is a Black and queer-led healing justice practice space founded in 2017 that creates grassroots healing spaces for Black and Brown community members living in the Bronx and northern Manhattan. Through the facilitation of innovative social justice programming and events, we primarily serve community members who are marginalized and ousted from traditional models of care through peer-to-peer counseling support, ancestral healing circles, and comprehensive healing & social justice education. BGR has two major practice areas including offering free and accessible community healing programs and expert racial, gender and healing justice consultation for community-based organizations. BGR guides organizations to transform outdated work culture by developing an explicit commitment to anti-oppression and anti-oppressive practices. Our facilitators guide community members to center their mental health and healing by providing free and accessible healing spaces that use storytelling as a tool for communication. BGR facilitators offer large-scale facilitation + consultation services including political educational offerings that build the tools and competencies for anti-oppression, community accountability, feminisms, race + racism, and healing justice. |
