It is a cross-disciplinary environment where aesthetic, social, economic and environmental considerations meet architectural thinking to imagine and deliver projects at multiple scales: architecture, urbanism, interiors and products. The spirit of innovative creation, curiosity and the goal of enhancing people's daily lives drive Ceren Bingol Studio to constantly search for ways to incorporate the joy of life and creativity into the practice’s projects. Ceren is a licensed architect with 18 years of experience in some of the world’s leading architecture practices such as OMA founded by Rem Koolhaas, Grimshaw Architects founded Sir Nicholas Grimshaw and Robert A.M. Stern Architects. In 2016, she founded Ceren Bingol Studio, where she has designed and delivered a number of projects that have been widely published. Previously, Ceren worked as a senior architect and project manager at OMA New York where she led the design and construction of cultural projects such as, Quebec National Museum of Beaux-Arts, Marina Abramovic Performance Arts Center and Albright Knox Gallery Extension. Prior to OMA, Ceren worked at Grimshaw Architects on high profile projects all of which exhibit exquisite attention to detail, building systems and sustainable design, such as Queens Museum of Art and Fulton Street Transit Center. Ceren is also an academic and educator. From 2016-2018, she was the Architect-in-Residence and Director of Architecture Department at Cranbrook Academy of Art, where she mentored 15 thesis student and critiqued the work of over 100 students in the various MFA programs, took over student recruiting, started new programs such as Cranbrook Architecture Lecture Series, Cranbrook Architecture and Urban Design Project Incubator and various collaborations between the Academy’s students and the City of Detroit Planning Department. Since 2018, she is an Adjunct Associate Professor at The Cooper Union, teaching design studio, seminars in Advanced Concepts in architecture and phenomenology of space and mentoring thesis students. Ceren has continually imagined avenues to create alternative platforms for infusing cities with thought-provoking events that engage city dwellers in dialogue with the cutting-edge trends and practitioners in architecture, art, design and cultural practice. Two such pioneering organizations she brought to life in the capacities of conceptual creator, organizer and curator include the Imagination of Space on Governors Island, a 5-month long art space and residency celebrating imagination in space, cities, ecology, form, light, sound and material through spatially immersive works, and The Drop: Urban Art Infill, of 2009, a festival of public interactive art, music and fashion projects, creating an actual participatory semi-utopia of arts on a closed to traffic block in the middle of the city. Both events have brought together a diverse range of established and emerging cultural participants such as Yoko Ono and Paul D. Miller among 50+ others vibrantly juxtaposed next to cutting-edge design, sound and performance. |
